Media Art
At SIAT, researchers explore wide-ranging areas from performance, video and sound design to virtual art, computational aesthetics and biomedia. We experiment with the possibilities afforded by new forms of computation, technology, interaction and culture. SIAT is one of the first programs in Interactive Art to offer the PhD in a university context. Thus, the work of SIAT faculty and graduate students typically integrate artistic practices with academic research in notably new ways.
Integration of Research Themes
Research is the cornerstone of SIAT scholarship; it is characterized by interdisciplinary foundations, human-centered design, and the building of rich media. It does not cleanly fall in to traditional categories, but rather seeks to create new knowledge at the intersection of art and science. Graduate students should expect to interact with colleagues with different backgrounds and a range of expertise.
Research // Themes
Faculty and students at SIAT are boundary crossers, developing new research approaches and methodologies to explore the possibilities created by the design of technology for humans. Below are intertwining keywords that have proven helpful to people interested in exploring the range of research we do:
