Our work at the iVizLab in "Socially Based Interactive Visualization" is grounded in real-time 3D techniques in animation, visualization and user interface but also includes the areas of cognition, perception science, and knowledge spaces with the aim of creating more socially engaging systems that enhance communication, collaboration and learning.

The research encompasses the broad area of interactive visualization and animation. It therefore looks deeply at core issues in real-time 3D, advanced user interface issues involved in character based animation and 3d virtual environments. It specializes though in gearing toward a human centric communication and perception approach. Therefore the animation and visualization work tries to emulate natural social metaphors. Researchers therefore, although their expertise and technical grounding are in real-time 3d techniques, must also process knowledge and interest in the cognitive sciences.
