posted: june 9. 2008
On the evening of May 28th a dinner and ceremony in honor of the winners of the SFU Surrey Entrance scholarships for the 2008 term was held in the Grand Hall of the SFU Surrey campus. The winners of the entrance scholarships for this year were a diverse group of students from secondary schools across the lower-mainland and BC who have all chosen to begin their post-secondary education here at SFU Surrey. Though presentation of the awards was the main point of the event the bulk of the time during the ceremony saw the students, along with their parents meeting and subsequently asking questions of the student mentors, advisors, and faculty representatives who came to the event to meet these new students and welcome them to the campus.
Among this group of students were Priscilla Lee, Marie Cheung, and Alec Burns, three of the six scholarship winners who have chosen to come to SFU Surrey in order to join the School of Interactive Arts and Technology . Their interests in the school were varied with some wishing to join the New Media/ Media Arts concentration and further their interests in narrative and animation, while another set her sights on design , specifying an interest in Communication Design and Space Design.
As is often the case with SIAT entrants these students will begin their time in SFU Surrey by joining TechOne and learning the basics of design and new media there before moving on to the SIAT concentrations in their second year.
The staff and students of SFU Surrey and the School of Interactive Arts and Technology congratulate these exceptional students wishes them welcome to the campus, and the school.
