SFU Open House 2008 - SIAT Created a Buzz!

SFU's Open House 2008 took place on Saturday, May 31 at the Burnaby campus. It was a party, an education fair and a campus experience.
The School of Interactive Arts + Technology [SIAT] created a buzz with their showcase of research projects and installations, and team of students, faculty and staff on hand to do demonstrations and answer questions. The projects showcased include:
- Project Put Your Game Face On // What research is heralding in more emotive and believable characters in games, which can herald in news types of learning and narrative-rich game genres? Professor Steve DiPaola who created the face system for the game "The Sims" will demonstrate his research work on 3D face-based characters and with the help of his undergraduate student Benny Lee will allow visitors to make their own voice-based game character short movies.
- E2 Real Estate Prototype by Nu Design Group // E2 aims to enhance the home buying experience by immersing the prospective buyer in the architecture and lifestyle of the development. E2 allows users to explore the development by interacting with the building and touch display while viewing panoramic images of the area on the 180 degree projector screen. Users inform themselves of suite layouts, interior décor and suite views by pressing available suites on the physical model or availability board. E2’s has targeted their product to a user typically falling between the ages of 30 and 60 with a moderate to high income.

- 3D Prototype Models // from IAT 337 Representation and Fabrication Course.
- Homeless, It's No Game // A video game for Change by Terry Lavender. Visit the SIAT project gallery to play: http://www.siat.sfu.ca/grad/projects/18/
- RBS Remote Bottle Recycling System // an interactive installation focused on reducing waste and rewarding green practices.
- Sustain-A-Stack Prototype by Team Octobox // A mini indoor greenhouse used for growing herbs, vegetables and other small plants. The goals of this project are to grow and monitor plants/ herbs/ vegetables in a convenient and effective way year-round & to create a heightened sense of awareness regarding the importance of organic foods in one’s lifestyle.
