Spacial Perception Research
By Aaron Levisohn
Aaron Levisohn, a PhD student in the SIAT program at SFU, is conducting spatial perception research to investigate ways in which bodily awareness can be incorporated into computer applications. Recent innovations in interface devices, as exemplified by the Nintendo Wii, have demonstrated the possibilities afforded by extending interaction to include the entire body. The prototype depicted here was developed as part of Levisohn's ongoing research exploring bodily interaction. It uses a video camera and flat screen monitor to capture and playback hand gestures in order to produce movement-based illusions that enable participants to re-experience being in their bodies. Levisohn's computerized body awareness research is supervised by professor Diane Gromala.
