SIAT Alumni - BSc Interactive Arts + Technology, Graduated 2005

"Having strong interests in graphics and animation, I knew my career would lead into the computer and game industry. I chose to complete my degree at SIAT because, unlike other institutions, it offered a strong creative focus, innovative teaching methods and online learning."

"SIAT gives you more than 'book smarts'; you gain real world experience by working on portfolio pieces and learning how to market yourself to employers.

SIAT has given me the motivation, inspiration and skills necessary to pursue a design career in the entertainment industry. When I graduated I worked at Electronic Arts and quickly became the Lead Interface Designer on the new Nintendo Wii console. My responsibilities included establishing the aesthetic look and feel of the video game, creating all the motion graphics, and handling the information architecture relating to the statistical and feature driven menu content. I have since launched my own company with business partners Johan Yang and Lorne McIntosh.

I would highly recommend SIAT to anyone who wants to commit to learning. The professors are amazing and students are continually pushed to their limits to generate the best work they possibly can. Plus there are countless opportunities to volunteer and participate in unique and incredibly rewarding study programs. My personal favorite was the 7-week field study in Italy. SIAT also provides you the opportunity to volunteer under your different professors. This volunteering can lead to using equipment that the average student would not have access to such as motion capture rigs or eye tracking machines. I firmly believe that this unpaid work experience helped put my resume at the top the pile. The learning culture at SIAT is great. The opportunities and experience I got at SIAT made me realize that this was the best university for me to attend."
